WEEK 7 - PLANT PROPAGATION

Hey guys, we are now in on the 7th week of my field work and today I will share my activities which is Plant Propagation. Plant Propagation is a process of creating new plants from existing ones. Without further ado, let's get into it!

On morning of 18th October, we gathered at our roll call around 6:40 a.m. Our morning roll call was started with the recital of Surah al-Kahfi and sang the Negaraku, UiTM  Dihatiku and the Planter's Song. The presenter for our batch this week was Nik Zafarihah from Class A.

Nik Zafarihah gave a talk about current issues in agriculture

After each part gave their morning talk, our roll call continued with the event called "Go Green". That faculty has invited a guest from Malacca State Department of Agriculture, Miss Nur Hafizah Bt Mohd Zain, and honorable Dean, Associate Professor Dr.Asmah Awal for officiating this event.

After the event, we ended our roll call and PE in charge instructed us to standby before we move to the nursery. The activity that we done for the day is plant budding which will be lectured by Madam Sarah.

Plant budding is an artificial method of asexual or vegetative propagation in plants. Like grafting, this method is employed to convert one plant (the rootstock) into another plant type with desirable characteristics. Similarly, resulting plants propagated from seeds.
Madam Sarah demonstrated how to do the plant budding.

The plant that we used for this activity was the rubber tree. The rubber tree was the rootstock that we used to patch it up with scion. The first step was to cut a part of scion to patch it onto the rubber tree. A part of the rubber tree must be same size as the cut part of the scion. We were warned not to touch the inner part of the scion as it might be infected with germs or any bacteria. A parafilm was used to wrap the scion that is patch with the rootstock.
